With the way the exchange rate is going I could see some interest from Europe to be fair. If someone is willing to pay £31k for a Peugeot 205 gti the God knows what this will make its really hard to tell. Hope it does well though.
I had heard about a 3rd bi turbo but it had been written off don't know how true that is mind you.

There's a silver Atlantique 300 for sale in France currently at EUR 99,000, so a RHD biturbo car at approximately half that looks good value to me. (Admittedly the French car has the best possible provenance and low mileage.)

I could well believe that the third car has gone (crashed or exported) as I can find no trace of it. But when looking earlier this year, and even though neither were for sale or advertised, I traced the other two quickly and easily, allowing me to approach both owners and place offers.

Currently at about £21k (inc fees), with 14 days to go. So, still unrealistically cheap, but there's plenty more bidding time to come.

a daily update with comments should make for a good reading thread :-)
do you think potential buyers are more likely to bid when the sun is shinning.

Sh*t me £65k fair play to you Ewan about time these cars got some recognition will be interesting to see how this auction goes to be fair. After one day it reached £21k and with yours for sale it might help drag the price up. To be fair ferraris and Porsches are now crazy money and will cost a bomb to run so compared to that they are a Bargin.

Hi Paul,

The auction will indeed be interesting, but I doubt it'll get exciting until the last moment. But with 400's being in the £150k area now, any bi-turbo 300 needs to be in the £50k-£100k bracket, with single turbos being not so far behind that. The days of any 300 being in the teens are long gone. (That said, I am of course referring to fully performing cars in top condition.)

From the Pistonheads ad I got an early offer starting with a 5. So no thanks. What could I buy for similar money that would replace the pace, grace and rarity?

That said, I'm still not convinced that this particular auction is the best place to get the best price for this particular car. Why wouldn't they use a major automotive auction house at a bona fide sports car event? Surely Bonhams at Goodwood (or similar) would be the better route?

I agree with you totally about the auction, that can't be the best place for to get the best price for that car, that said the big auctioneers would take a sizeable chunk out of the final price I would of thought.

As regards about the prices it is so hard to get a definitive price on them as there are so few of them. I do agree that they can't be in the teens anymore as bloody 205's are fetching that!

Unfortunately rarity doesn't seem to drive the market unless it's a Ferrari or a Porsche, if Rarity did then the A610 would be a lot more money plus lots of other small volume cars.
I think most of the market is being driven by investors as there is no money in the bank's so they are looking to put the money into something which will give them a good return plus have some fun and of course also to be fairly goldplated hence why big brands Porsche and E type jag ect seem to get the bulk of the money. Investing in small production run not so well known cars it's obviously higher risk and there are less people as potential purchasers if they wish to sell.

This will be very interesting to watch.

I ran my own auctioneering & valuation business for almost 40 years. We specialized in insolvency sales, & for the last 4 years before we sold the business, everything was sold on our own on line website.

From experience, any vehicle that comes from an insolvent estate will create more interest, due to the fact it is a `genuine`sale. Not some dealers tat been put in to get rid of. Walker Singleton are a well known company & will have a substantial database of interested parties, together with the expertise to market the car. The article in the press can only help it.

Also DONT forget, if you are bidding, there is 15% buyers premium PLUS vat to add to the bid price. The car itself shouldn't attract VAT unless it sells for more than new price, in which case VAT would be payable on the difference. VAT cannot be claimed back on new cars, so assuming it was sold new in the UK, the tax man will have had the VAT for that.

If the car brings £30k the buyers premium would add £5400 !. If it brings £40k it will be £7200 extra !

Have fun

Currently at £19,300 which, by my maths, makes it £22,774 including the buyers fee and the VAT on that fee. So still an utter bargain. One week to go.

Just hit the £20k mark so still going up, but it may struggle to get big numbers as its not the best time of year for selling classic exotic cars I would of thought. Will be interesting all the same.
